About

About

I was born and raised in Colorado and currently live in Parker, CO with my 16 year old daughter.

I have had many adventures in my life and have lived in many places, including Prague, Czech Republic, San Francisco, Iowa, and one day plan to move to Central America to continue working in Telehealth.

I have been a Psychotherapist for 21 years working primarily with couples, divorce, and grief and loss.

Why I became a therapist:

Being a therapist was always in the cards for me.  My abilities and passions for helping others and listening to people started when I was a child and became clearer as I developed into an adult.

There was never a time that I was not going to be a therapist.

It is in my nature to help, be compassionate, guide, listen, and care.  People have always felt comfortable telling me things they would have never shared with another human being.

I am completely nonjudgmental and open. People can be completely authentic with me and do so without fear. Coaching is also a part of my innate self.

I am a fixer and I thrive on helping others problem-solve, even in the most difficult situations. My work in Divorce Coaching started when I had several friends going through divorces and had no one to talk to about it and no idea what to do.

As we worked together and I supported them, they all said the same thing; “you NEED to do this for a living!”.

So here I am, inspired by people I love and who love me, and I decided to take the leap, integrate divorce coaching into my services.

So here I am, inspired by people I love and who love me, and I decided to take the leap, integrate divorce coaching into my services.

My approach to therapy:

I use a combination of Solution Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, and Directive modalities when I work with couples.

Therapy with me, as it has been described to me, is like talking with an old friend that is unbiased, lacking judgment, and easy to talk to.

I would describe therapy with me as a comfortable and safe space to be absolutely authentic, filterless, and free from all of the judgment, restrictions, fears that we live with in our everyday environment.

I will not favor one party over another, ever.  Both parties ALWAYS have something to contribute, whether to the problem or the solution, or both.  I’m not here to pit you against one another.  I am here to help you find the common ground and the path back to each other.

My approach to coaching:

My approach is simple.  I will be present and supportive and allow you to structure our time together naturally.  This will happen by your engagement, authenticity to your divorce experience, expression of your needs and fears and desires to move through the tumultuous divorce process.

Everyone’s needs are different and everyone experiences every phase of divorce differently.  We will work through things one step at a time at a pace you are comfortable with.  I’ve worked with clients that have needed my guidance for months, some for up to 2 years or more.  It often depends on you, your support system, the length of your marriage, and the issues that dissolved the marriage. You can be 100% real with me, no filter, no worries, absolute authenticity and freedom to be exactly where you are every time we are together.

I am here to walk you through the moments that arise, the documentation you don’t know you need, the communication training to help you achieve a more desirable and amicable divorce and also a co-parenting relationship in many cases. By helping you, and sometimes your soon to be ex-partner, through this, I can help you potentially prevent the need for expensive divorce attorneys and maybe even work toward handling things through mediation, saving you significant time and money.

Even if just one of you is willing to work toward a more productive outcome, the chances of you being able to help the relationship is much higher than doing nothing at all.

Some fun and interesting things about me:

I am a single mother to an amazing 16 yo girl who is also very heavily involved in high level Volleyball.  I spend most of my free time participating in her athletic activities.  I spend a lot of time with my elderly mother and my siblings and a few very close friends.

We have rescued 4 crazy cats, all thanks to my little girl who can’t walk past any animal without helping it.  I lived in Europe when I was in my 20s and this is when my first marriage and subsequent divorce occurred.  He was Czech.  It was a hideous divorce and scarred me for many years.

I then married my daughter’s dad many years later which, again, led to a contentious and ugly divorce but one that we both worked together to make better through efforts toward our communication techniques.

We were both getting sick, physically and emotionally from the toxic nature of our relationship and it was also killing our little girls.  We decided to stop the cycle and create a new story.

Years later, we are best friends and our girls (one of the girls is my non-biological daughter who I raised) are happy and deal with very few lingering issues from the divorce.  I hope to move to Central America within the next 5 years after my daughter is ready for me to go and start a new chapter in my life, one where I get to know myself, not as a mom or an ex wife, but as a woman who has achieved much personal success amid some very turbulent times.

Quotes I find inspiring:

“Some women fear the fire, some simply become the flame”
