Yes, but if it is not canceled 24 or more hours prior to the appointment your card will be charged for the full session amount, very few exceptions to this rule.
What is a free initial phone consultation?
This is a time for us to discuss your goals and to determine whether we are a good fit for another. This usually takes about 15-30 minutes and is free.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session we will go over your completed intake form and really get to know one another and determine the best way to proceed in our time together.
What is therapy like with you?
I am 100% objective and nonjudgmental. You will find yourself being able to be authentic and find me to be direct yet compassionate. I have been told it feels like you’re talking to your best friend but with a skillset to help you move forward and out of your stuckness.
How long will I be in therapy?
That is completely dependent on the work you do
Does anyone cry in front of you?
Absolutely. Vulnerability and authenticity are key to healing and success.
Do I have to tell you everything?
What you share is up to you.
How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?
We will both know quickly. Sometimes the connection isn’t there and it’s not personal.
I’ve never been to therapy or shared personal issues before. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Quite the opposite. Those who are willing and able to access their vulnerabilities are those who are the strongest of people.Suffering in silence doesn’t serve anyone.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
I am completely objective and have a skillset to move you through your suffering and struggles. A friend or family member are not equipped to do this. Their job is to love you. Mine is to move you.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
We will have a conversation, determine where you are struggling most. Every day may be different and that is OK. I will meet you where you are and work through issues as they arise. There is no recipe to follow. It is about being present, authentic, and honest with yourself and with each other.
Is our work confidential?
100% unless you share you are intending harm to self or others. This, however, is not a forum for those considering harm of any kind. Should this be the case it is best to call a crisis hotline and seek in person psychotherapy as well as emergent care at your local emergency room.
How long have you been in practice?
I have been a psychotherapist for 22 years, primarily working in grief/loss, couples, individuals experiencing relationship struggles, and divorce. My private practice was established over 2 years ago.
What are your strengths as a therapist?
I am direct yet compassionate and allow you the space to be authentic, vulnerable, and honest but I am also solution and goal focused so you spend as little time as possible sitting in your suffering and more time moving through it to a more productive and happier space.
What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
I love the dynamics of people and how different everyone is. To experience a person moving through their suffering only to experience joy and productivity again is extremely satisfying.
Have you been in therapy yourself?
Absolutely
What is your educational background?
I am LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), MA in Clinical Psychotherapy received from the University of Denver.
Do you prescribe medications?
No, that is done by Psychiatrists.
Are you licensed?
Yes, LPC
What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Coaching?
Psychotherapy draws on the past to work on the now and the future/it is based on feelings and behaviors resulting from past events. Coaching is more solution/goal focused and is designed to be directive and proactive.
